Electricity was taken for granted. Until 2022, when there was discussion about an energy shortage in Switzerland for the first time. Suddenly, people became more conscious of heat and light. The large light bulbs with burning matches are remind visitors of a campfire. By day, the matches are burnt out, by night they flicker. In a playful way, the «fireplace» tells about the usability of energy in its various forms.
Flora Frommelt (1990) lives and works in Rapperswil-Jona and Zurich and is dedicated to the design of our living space in all its significance. She works as an artist at the interface between art, architecture and design.
Flora’s works move between conceptual installations and organic experiments. She plays with surface and space in a sensual way, focuses on structures and patterns, reacts to people, bodies and nature, to digital and analogue topics, and develops site-specific explorations with sophisticated, serious humour. Her works manifest themselves in pictorial and spatial arrangements and cultivate a minimalistic, graphic-geometric formal language.
